Yanni Papanikolaou, PhD Cand, MHSc, BSc
Yanni Papanikolaou is the principal consultant at Nutritional Strategies (NS), a consulting firm that specializes in helping food and dietary supplement companies utilize nutritional science to develop effective and substantiated nutrition-related claims. Through NS, Yanni has consulted with a variety of clientele, including food and dietary supplement manufacturers, government and trade associations in North America and Europe.
Yanni has an undergraduate degree from the University of Western Ontario in Nutrition and a Masters of Health Science in Public Health Nutrition from the University of Toronto. While working in the food industry, Yanni has concurrently been completing his doctorate degree in Nutritional Science at the University of Toronto, focusing on the effects of different carbohydrates on cognitive function in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Yanni spent 3 years as a scientific advisor to the Canadian Diabetes Association’s Food and Nutrition Policy Advisory Subcommittee.
Yanni has worked with Nestlé USA and Nestlé Canada, the Grocery Manufacturers of America and has been actively involved in projects for Mead Johnson Nutritionals, Parmalat, and Cancer Care Ontario while collaborating on projects for Kellogg’s, Tropicana-Pepsi Co. and Dairy Management Inc.
Most recently, Yanni has taken an interest in how nutrition affects skin health. As skin is the largest organ of the body and is affected by nutrition, Yanni’s focus in this field is ever changing as trends in both industries demand for continuous research and study.
