For immediate release:
Toronto, May 16, 2008 --- The public is invited to a free skin cancer screening and sun awareness event at Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto on Friday May 23, 2008, from 11am to 2pm.
The event, co-hosted by the Canadian Dermatology Association and the Canadian Cancer Society, Ontario Division, happens just prior to National Sun Awareness Week, May 26 to June 1, 2008.
This year’s focus is on sun safety during outdoor sport and recreation. People involved in these activities are urged to come and have a free skin check and find out how to be sun protected during outdoor fitness activities.
Those worried about spots or moles on their skin, or who have had a lot of sun exposure through outdoor work or recreational activities, are also encouraged to come down for a free, private screening. Some skin cancers and pre-cancers were found among those attending the 2006 event at the square.
The event happens only once a year. Usually only sun-exposed areas, such as the face, neck and arms, are examined since this is where most skin cancers appear.
